Wikipedia Zero - what Zero?

Post by Renée Bagslint » Sun Jul 01, 2018 7:50 pm

A hapless newcomer raises an apparently innocuous question about Wikipedia Zero:
Lucas Teles wrote:Do we have any official statement about it? I learnt that WZ would end this year, but I am looking for any accurate information in order to reply to the messages. Is it over for all the providers and countries? Is there something [w]e should tell to the affected users?
He is pointed to a blog post which doesn't answer his question but blethers about how "new partnership opportunities will continue to address critical barriers to participation in free knowledge around the world". Someone also points him to a list of the start but not, as requested, the end dates of the programmes. Is it that these people simply cannot read? Or that they enjoy giving unhelpful answers? Or is it that there is a deep-seated and sub-conscious reluctance to address the fact that this programme was an ill-conceived failure from beginning to end, so that it needs to be erased from history?

You mean the thing that caused half of the world to be blocked on Commons?
