New snouts in the trough

Post by Renée Bagslint » Sun Jul 08, 2018 6:32 pm

Welcome to the Wikipedia & Education User Group. Not quite sure how this sidffers from the Wikipedia Education Program or even the Wiki Education Foundation, but I'm sure it's important to have all three.

Most of the founding committee are already chapter committee members or simidi, so this enables them to get a second or third bite at the cherry. Nice work.

Those first two at least appear to be part of the WMF.

The Wiki Education Foundation is an independent nonprofit that was spun off from the WMF, ostensibly to connect Wikipedia to higher ed. Think about how insane that is. They're using the Wikipedia name, to do something the WMF should obviously be doing in-house. And competing for the same funding as the WMF. And spending loads of money on fundraising and administration.

Full disclosure: I dislike these guys because one of their employees keeps inserting Metapedia into the Wikipedia "List of online encyclopedias" article under the General Reference section. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?ti ... =774944465
